ARO 2021, from Bodegas Muga, triumphant with the maximum score in the Rioja report by the Club Oenologique

  • The Master of Wine, Pedro Ballesteros, picks out ARO 2021 as one of the region’s most outstanding wines, giving it the top score in the Club Oenologique’s Rioja report

ARO 2021, Bodegas Muga’s most emblematic wine, with 99 points, has achieved the maximum score awarded in the “Rioja Report 2025” by the Club Oenologique, the premium British specialist wine publication.

The report, prepared by the Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros Torres, highlights ARO 2021 as one of the region’s most outstanding wines, describing it as “a wine which is already very complete, but with the capacity to evolve over many more years in the bottle”.

This acknowledgement establishes ARO 2021 as one of the great Rioja references, underlining the quality and the commitment of Bodegas Muga to excellence. At the beginning of this year, this wine from the family firm already topped the list of the Wine Spectator’s Top Rioja Wines, in which Alison Napjus, Senior Editor of The Wine Spectator, and after tasting over 300 references, chose Aro 2021 as the leader of the prestigious list of the Top Rioja Wines.

What’s more, in this special feature on Rioja wines, we can also find another two references from the Haro bodega: Muga Selección Especial 2020 with 94 points and Flor de Muga Blanco Reserva 2021 with 93 puntos. This goes to prove that the Muga family’s commitment to quality brings its rewards.

Isaac Muga, technical director of Bodegas Muga and third generation member of the family, has expressed his satisfaction: “This recognition is testimony to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. ARO 2021 reflects our philosophy of combining tradition and modernity, and this international support spurs us to continue to work with passion and commitment”
